My name is Elena Calvar and I am originally from the Basque Country, in the north-east of Spain.
I studied Psychology and after some work experience with migrants and refugees in a community centre in Edinburgh, I decided to study a Masters degree in Migration Studies.
I spent three and a half years living in Ecuador, where I had the opportunity to be involved in different projects with important organizations such as UNDP or Save the Children Ecuador.
Since I finished my university years I have lived and worked in different countries around the world, and travelling has become my passion. Traveling makes me happy, because I learn a lot about the cultures and people I meet along the way, so my objective is to continue discovering the fantastic world we live in.
My journey with Actingworks
I started volunteering for Actingworks in October 2015, basically when I arrived in London. I wanted to be a volunteer to get involved with something relating to my career while I was looking for a job and learning English. The good energy and happiness of the Lego and Arts and Crafts Clubs made me want to continue volunteering even if I have to do it in my days off. I always have a good time working with Actingworks and spending time with the children and the other volunteers.
