I am grateful for all my experiences working in childcare over the last 12 years. I started work as a nanny and then travelled overseas to work as a youth counsellor on a cruise ship in the Caribbean, where I worked with large groups of children aged 2 – 12. This was a highly beneficial experience for me.
Afterwards, I returned to Slovakia to develop activities at an international nursery school for children of various nationalities, where English was the main language. I stayed there for over 5 years. This experience helped me to understand the overall development of each child. I find it fascinating to see how children learn and use their new knowledge for further development.
As an active traveller, after 5 years in Slovakia, I decided to come to London, mainly to experience higher levels of multiculturalism.
I have been here for the last 3 years and worked in various positions in childcare. I have worked as a full-time nursery nurse for a year.
When I decided to study education, I had to give up my full-time job in order to have time to study. Therefore, I have been working as a part-time nanny and travelling with families to help out with childcare during holidays.
My journey with Actingworks
I have been volunteering for Actingworks since September as part of my studies related to education. I volunteer twice a week: Wednesdays at Lego Club and Fridays at Arts & Crafts Club. I am glad to see the children using their time actively after school and benefiting in all areas of development. Actingworks offers a large range of activities, which are not only designed to keep children active, but also to help them develop their personal, social and emotional wellbeing.
